This one happened today. But, since it is now the past, and I was thinking about it, it totally counts.
So Cathy Lewis is a local public radio/tv fixture, and like me, walks slightly bent at the waist. She, however, walks with purpose, as I sort of sulk around. The pretentious term is 'saunter' of which I also partake. But the point of all of this is how we arranged the halving of a doughnut, (I got to pick the doughnut.) So there I was in the canteen of the station's building peering into a donated box of Dunkin Donuts. I really didn't want one, but I did want a taste, so I stood there contemplating on how I would separate a piece without touching it with my hands. As I hovered over the fried gooey goods a small crowd began to gather and goaded me along. "Go ahead, pick one."
The pressure mounts. I still hadn't solved the transfer of germs scenario. This is when Cathy strolls in and takes command of the situation. Did I mention that she hosts a radio show and a television show? So she joins in with the mob and prods me along too "Go ahead, pick one." I meekly respond, "Yeah, but I don't want a whole one." Right on beat, she goes, "Let's split one, which one shall we have." My instinct was plain, but because Cathy, not being a tiny lady, I last-minute-audibled for the powdered sugar. She said "Great" grabbed a plastic knife from a nearby tray that was sticking out of vat of butter, (for bagels) wiped it off, sliced the doughnut, gave me the half she did not touch, mentioned how it all worked out perfectly and off she scuttled. Off I sauntered.
